Introduction

Bloomteq designed and deployed Furnatek, a furnace management platform that digitizes temperature monitoring using IR cameras and real-time analytics. The system enhances operational safety, reduces inspection downtime, and centralizes diagnostics for multiple furnace units across Furnatek Industries, INC facilities.

Challenge and Scope

Industrial furnace monitoring in the petrochemical sector presents a unique combination of safety, operational, and technical challenges:

  • Traditional furnace inspection required physical, manual checks in hazardous high-temperature environments, increasing safety risk and operational downtime.

  • Temperature data from multiple furnace units was siloed and unstructured, making centralized diagnostics and trend analysis difficult.

  • The absence of real-time monitoring meant that thermal anomalies and early-stage malfunctions were often identified too late, risking equipment damage and safety incidents.

  • Integrating IR camera hardware with a software platform required specialized computer vision expertise and custom hardware SDK integration.

  • The platform needed to operate reliably in demanding industrial environments with strict uptime requirements.

Approach, Solution and Outcome

Approach

Bloomteq began with an on-site assessment of Furnatek's furnace infrastructure and operational workflows to understand the inspection process, hardware constraints, and safety requirements. The team selected a C# and .NET Core stack for the backend, leveraging OpenCV for computer vision processing of IR camera feeds. Kubernetes on AWS was chosen to ensure platform resilience and scalability across multiple furnace units. The eBus SDK was integrated as the communication layer between IR cameras and the processing pipeline.

Solution

  • Designed and deployed a full-cycle furnace management platform digitizing temperature monitoring using IR camera feeds processed via OpenCV.

  • Integrated eBus SDKs to establish reliable communication between industrial IR cameras and the platform's real-time processing pipeline.

  • Built a C# / .NET Core backend providing real-time analytics on temperature readings, thermal patterns, and anomaly detection across multiple furnace units.

  • Developed a centralized diagnostics dashboard consolidating data from all monitored furnace units for operators and plant managers.

  • Implemented automated alerting for thermal anomalies and early-stage malfunction indicators, enabling proactive intervention.

  • Deployed the platform on Kubernetes and AWS, ensuring high availability and scalability as additional furnace units are onboarded.

  • Replaced manual physical inspection workflows with remote, software-driven monitoring, reducing inspector exposure to hazardous environments.

Outcome

  • Furnace temperature monitoring was fully digitized, eliminating the need for routine manual inspections in high-risk environments.

  • Real-time anomaly detection enabled proactive maintenance, reducing the risk of unplanned furnace downtime and safety incidents.

  • Centralized diagnostics provided plant operators with a unified view of all furnace units, improving decision-making and operational oversight.

  • Inspection downtime was reduced by removing dependency on scheduled physical checks in favor of continuous automated monitoring.

  • The scalable Kubernetes deployment allows Furnatek to onboard additional furnace units without platform rearchitecture.

Business Impact

Bloomteq's Furnatek platform delivered measurable improvements in both operational safety and efficiency for Furnatek Industries. By digitizing a previously manual and hazardous inspection process, the platform reduced worker exposure to extreme temperatures while simultaneously improving the quality and frequency of monitoring data. Proactive malfunction detection directly reduces the cost of unplanned downtime in a sector where furnace outages carry significant financial and safety consequences. The centralized, scalable architecture positions Furnatek Industries to expand monitoring capabilities across additional facilities with minimal incremental investment.
