Zeppelin partnered with Bloomteq to modernize their fleet tracking infrastructure. The project included telematics dashboards, automated customer reports, and predictive maintenance tools. Trackers manufactured by MachineMax stream data through a resilient pipeline, enabling real-time insights into equipment status, location, working hours, and emissions. The system replaces a 17-year-old codebase and automates manual tasks such as code transformation and malfunction detection.
Zeppelin's fleet tracking infrastructure had accumulated 17 years of technical debt, creating a set of deep operational and technical challenges:
The legacy codebase required manual code transformation processes that were slow, error-prone, and costly to maintain.
Fleet equipment operated across diverse connectivity environments - cellular and radio networks - requiring a resilient, adaptive data pipeline.
Real-time visibility into equipment status, location, working hours, and emissions was absent, limiting operational decision-making.
Malfunction detection was reactive and manual, increasing downtime risk and maintenance costs.
Customer reporting was manual and time-consuming, reducing the value Zeppelin could deliver to its clients.
MachineMax telemetry hardware needed deep integration with backend systems to unlock the full value of streaming sensor data.
Bloomteq conducted a comprehensive assessment of the legacy system to map data flows, hardware integration requirements, and reporting needs. The team defined a modular architecture using Java SpringBoot and Angular that would allow incremental replacement of legacy components without disrupting ongoing operations. MachineMax hardware integration was prioritized as the data foundation, with the resilient pipeline designed to handle both cellular and radio network communication from field equipment.
Built a full lifecycle telemetry and data reporting system from the ground up using Java SpringBoot, Angular, and PostgreSQL on AWS.
Integrated MachineMax hardware trackers as the primary data source, enabling real-time streaming of equipment status, GPS location, working hours, and emissions data.
Developed a resilient data pipeline supporting both cellular and radio network communication to ensure reliable data collection from equipment operating in remote or low-connectivity environments.
Built telematics dashboards providing real-time fleet visibility for operators and fleet managers.
Automated code transformation processes, eliminating a major source of manual effort and reducing error rates.
Implemented automated malfunction detection, enabling proactive maintenance and reducing unplanned downtime.
Delivered automated customer reporting, replacing manual report generation with scheduled, data-driven outputs.
Replaced the 17-year-old codebase with a modern, maintainable, and extensible architecture.
Zeppelin's fleet operations gained real-time visibility into equipment status, location, utilization, and emissions across the entire fleet.
Manual code transformation and reporting tasks were fully automated, freeing operational staff for higher-value activities.
Proactive malfunction detection reduced unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.
The modern modular architecture replaced a 17-year-old legacy system, significantly reducing maintenance burden and enabling faster future development.
Customer reporting quality and delivery speed improved, strengthening Zeppelin's service offering to its clients.
Bloomteq's delivery of the Zeppelin Telematics Suite transformed fleet management from a reactive, manually intensive operation into a data-driven, automated capability. Real-time equipment insights enable Zeppelin's customers to optimize utilization, reduce emissions, and prevent costly breakdowns. The replacement of the legacy codebase significantly reduces ongoing maintenance costs and technical risk, while the automated reporting platform enhances the value Zeppelin delivers to its construction and heavy machinery clients across Germany.
